The image series presented here is the result of an experimental project based on photographs captured during a journey to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil back in 2022. The pictures were shot using Infrared Black and White 35 mm film and processed in a personal photographic darkroom. The negatives were then digitized by photographing them on a light table, before being printed on acrylic paper. These prints were then layered with several acrylic sheets and photographic paper, creating a unique process reminiscent of photograms.
Throughout each stage, the negatives, acrylic sheets, and photographic paper were intentionally manipulated by hand, acquiring marks and imperfections that imbue them with a sense of time and history. The goal was to render the passage of time tangible through visible signs of handling, giving the images a depth and character rooted in their evolving creation process.
This ongoing project entails further handling, scanning, and rephotographing of the images, continuing the exploration of the tactile qualities and historical layers added through these photographic experimental methods. The endeavor seeks to breathe life and narrative into the images, providing them with a distinctive visual identity shaped by a series of intricate and deliberate interventions.
